If you have ever tried to develop a solid six pack of washboard abs then you will understand how difficult it can be. Doing constant sit ups and excessively long cardiovascular work can become annoying after time if you are not getting the desired effect. But there are alternatives if you are clever about the way you do things.

There are a few factors in building the abdominal muscles that many people miss. The initial point is the need for a good diet. It may sound boring and not the kind of information you want to hear but it is the truth. If you eat poorly then the abs will never be visible. It is possible to have a great six pack that noone can see because of the fat covering it. See truth about abs reviews
So sticking with good healthy meals should be of primary focus. Aim to avoid foods with lots of sugar and white flour, and of course any fast food. Try to have approximately six to eight meals of a smaller size as opposed to the traditional few main meals. This speeds up metabolism and sets you on the right course. Also get into the habit of drinking 8 large glasses of water throughout the day.

After you have a dietary plan set in place you can think about your fitness regime. There are constant disputes over the most effective ways to get abs. Some folks get great results from the long cardio reoutines and hundreds of crunches while others stay clear of it. There are numerous examples of people who run persistently and work on building abs constantly but never see the results.

It could be a good idea to do short periods of crunch work and keep it to no more than four times each week. This is all you need to develop your abs as well as the dietary changes.

As for cardio work there is also no need to spend hours each time doing this. Try doing some hard paced work in short bursts in place of the usual slow and long periods of cardio. Consider the physique of a sprinter over a marathon runner and you can see what I mean. You really do not want to be stripping muscle from your body, just fat so avoid the long cardio routines that some people preach.

Also you will want to lift weights as part of your training routine. Work on the standard exercises which include squats, dead-lifts and the bench press that can be instrumental in growing muscle while working off fat. If you keep to this type of exercise and dietary style you should develop a great 6 pack in a moderate amount of time.
