A important component in working out is variance. You have to switch it up often, otherwise your body gets used to a specific exercise, and basically adapts to it, which may sound good theoretically, but it's actually bad regarding efficiency. Your muscles grow when they are challenged or pushed, and if you continuously do the same workout, your body gets accustomed to it so it is no longer as challenging, and it no longer is pushing the muscle.

Keep the running, but also use variance w/ in your ab exercises. There are tons of different kinds of crunches or ab exercises. Switch it up.
References :
250 crunches everyday no lie thats what we did for crew last year and it gave us all great stomachs. it's not that hard if you do like 50 in the morning and 50 mid day and then the rest throughout the day. and when you do them, make sure you do them slow, it gives you a better workout because you're putting more strain on your muscles.
References :
crew and biology

My competitive weights coach has us do a killer core workout (he is an MMA fighter) if you have a medicine ball you can do trunk twists, 1,2,3,4s, and V-ups, if not planks and crunches are a good option. As far as running and doing the ab exercises i do them both every day and that works good for me.
